About the Course
The Mental Health and Psychosocial Support (MHPSS) training is designed to equip participants with practical knowledge and skills to promote psychological well-being, strengthen resilience, and provide effective support to individuals and communities experiencing distress. Drawing on international guidelines such as the Inter-Agency Standing Committee (IASC) Guidelines on Mental Health and Psychosocial Support in Emergency Settings and the World Health Organization (WHO) Mental Health Gap Action Programme (mhGAP), the course bridges theory with practice to ensure participants can confidently respond to mental health and psychosocial challenges in both development and humanitarian contexts.
The training explores key areas including common mental health conditions, psychosocial well-being, the MHPSS intervention pyramid, psychological first aid (PFA), community-based approaches, and specialized support for vulnerable populations. Participants will also gain skills in assessment, referral systems, crisis response, and program sustainability. A strong emphasis is placed on self-care and stress management for helpers and frontline workers, ensuring participants not only provide effective support but also safeguard their own well-being.
By the end of the training, participants will be able to identify and respond to mental health and psychosocial needs in diverse contexts and deliver appropriate psychosocial support including psychological first aid and community-based interventions.
