About the Course
Emergencies can increase exposure to GBV by disrupting protection systems, livelihoods, social networks and services while increasing displacement, insecurity and dependence on humanitarian assistance. GBV risk mitigation must therefore be integrated from the earliest stages of emergency preparedness and response.
This specialist course focuses on GBV risk mitigation and coordination in humanitarian emergencies. It covers emergency risk analysis, GBV minimum actions, safe assessments, service mapping, referral systems, sector integration, safety audits, humanitarian coordination, information management and preparedness.
Participants conduct an emergency GBV risk assessment and design sector-specific mitigation actions, a referral pathway, emergency service map, safety audit, coordination matrix and preparedness plan for a realistic crisis scenario.
Target Participants
Humanitarian programme staff; GBV and protection practitioners; emergency coordinators; camp and site managers; WASH, shelter, food security, health and education staff; government disaster-management personnel; NGO managers and safeguarding focal points.

Training Approach
Participants work through a humanitarian emergency simulation involving displacement, disrupted services and rapidly changing protection risks. Activities include safety audits, sector risk mapping, referral planning, and coordination exercises.
The training emphasizes practical risk mitigation for non-specialist sector teams while maintaining clear boundaries around survivor case management and specialized services.
Organizational Benefits
- Improves emergency readiness for GBV risk mitigation.
- Strengthens sector integration of GBV considerations.
- Improves safety of assessments, distributions, and services.
- Strengthens emergency referral and coordination systems.
- Improves safe information management.
- Supports more accountable and protective humanitarian response.
Certification
Participants who successfully complete this course will receive a Certificate of Course Completion from Devimpact Institute, recognizing the knowledge, practical skills and competencies developed through the programme.
Customization Options
This course can be customized and delivered as an in-house programme to address the specific policies, systems, sector context and capacity-development priorities of an organization. The course duration, modules, case studies and practical exercises may be adjusted following a training needs assessment.
