About the Course
Gender-based violence (GBV) is rooted in unequal power and can be intensified by conflict, displacement, economic stress, weak services and harmful social norms. Professionals working in development, humanitarian action, social services and public institutions need practical capability to prevent violence, reduce programme-related risks and support safe, ethical and survivor-centred response.
This course consolidates Devimpact’s overlapping GBV and SGBV offerings into one stronger practitioner programme. It covers GBV forms and drivers, survivor-centred principles, risk mitigation, prevention, referral pathways, multisectoral response, safe information management, coordination and programme monitoring, while recognizing that specialized case management and clinical response require appropriately qualified practitioners.
Participants develop a GBV risk assessment, referral pathway map, service mapping matrix, prevention strategy, safe information protocol and programme monitoring framework. Simulations emphasize ethical decision-making, confidentiality, informed consent and do-no-harm practice.
Target Participants
GBV and protection officers; humanitarian and development staff; social workers; programme managers; gender focal points; community-development practitioners; government officers; safeguarding staff; M&E personnel and professionals involved in GBV prevention, risk mitigation or referral systems.

Training Approach
The course uses survivor-centred decision scenarios, risk-assessment exercises, referral mapping, prevention design and case-based ethical discussions. Facilitators emphasize professional boundaries and distinguish programme-management capability from specialist clinical or case-management functions.
Applied exercises are designed around do-no-harm principles. Participants are not required to disclose personal experiences, and sensitive case material is handled through fictionalized scenarios.
Organizational Benefits
- Strengthens safe and consistent GBV risk management.
- Improves quality of prevention and referral systems.
- Strengthens coordination between programme and specialist service actors.
- Improves ethical handling of sensitive information.
- Supports stronger GBV monitoring without compromising survivor safety.
- Reduces duplication between overlapping internal GBV training products.
Certification
Participants who successfully complete this course will receive a Certificate of Course Completion from Devimpact Institute, recognizing the knowledge, practical skills and competencies developed through the programme.
Customization Options
This course can be customized and delivered as an in-house programme to address the specific policies, systems, sector context and capacity-development priorities of an organization. The course duration, modules, case studies and practical exercises may be adjusted following a training needs assessment.
