About the Course
Organizations increasingly recognize that unequal access to opportunities, services, resources and decision-making can undermine programme effectiveness, workforce performance and development outcomes. Gender equality and social inclusion (GESI) provides a structured way to identify who is excluded, why exclusion occurs, and how policies, programmes and institutions can respond more equitably.
This foundation course builds a common professional language around gender, equality, equity, intersectionality, disability inclusion, social exclusion, power, participation and rights-based programming. It introduces practical GESI analysis, inclusive stakeholder engagement, basic programme mainstreaming, safeguarding considerations and accountability mechanisms without assuming prior technical specialization.
Participants apply the concepts to realistic organizational and programme situations. They develop a basic GESI diagnostic, stakeholder inclusion map, barrier analysis, inclusive participation plan and action roadmap that can be adapted for projects, public services, humanitarian programmes and institutional policies.
Target Participants
Programme and project staff; government officers; NGO and humanitarian personnel; social protection and community-development practitioners; HR and L&D professionals; gender or inclusion focal points; consultants; and professionals requiring a structured introduction to GESI.

Training Approach
The programme combines concise technical input with facilitated reflection, case analysis, stakeholder-mapping exercises and guided use of practical GESI tools. Participants test concepts against realistic development, humanitarian, public-sector and workplace situations rather than treating inclusion as an abstract principle.
Applied work is sequenced toward a final GESI improvement roadmap. Peer review is used to test whether proposed actions are realistic, accessible and responsive to identified barriers.
Organizational Benefits
- Creates a common institutional language on gender equality and inclusion.
- Improves identification of exclusion barriers and participation gaps.
- Strengthens inclusive programme and service design.
- Supports more accessible stakeholder engagement.

Customization Options
This course can be customized and delivered as an in-house programme to address the specific policies, systems, sector context and capacity-development priorities of an organization.
