About the Course
Humanitarian communication takes place in high-pressure environments where affected people require timely, accurate and actionable information while organizations must coordinate messages across responders, authorities and communities. Communication failures can deepen confusion, exclusion, rumours, protection risks and mistrust.
This course develops practical communication capability for humanitarian preparedness and response. It covers information needs assessment, accountability to affected populations, community feedback, risk communication, rumour management, inclusive communication, coordination, protection considerations, spokesperson practice and monitoring.
Participants will develop a humanitarian communication and accountability plan with community information flows, feedback mechanisms, rumour tracking, message protocols and monitoring tools. The course emphasizes two-way communication, dignity and practical coordination rather than one-directional emergency messaging.
Target Participants
Humanitarian communication officers, NGO staff, emergency-response personnel, public information officers, programme managers, community engagement teams, protection staff, government emergency communication personnel and development partners supporting crisis response.
