About the Course
Auditing a pension fund requires an understanding of the distinctive risks created by contributions, long-term member records, investment assets, benefit calculations, service-provider arrangements and regulatory obligations. A financial statement audit alone may not identify weaknesses in pension administration, governance or compliance unless audit work is deliberately designed around the pension lifecycle.
This course equips internal auditors, audit committee members and pension professionals to plan and execute risk-based pension audits. It covers audit scoping, contribution testing, benefit verification, investment assurance, data integrity, compliance, fraud indicators and reporting. Participants learn how to move beyond checklist-based reviews and focus audit attention on the processes and controls most likely to affect member assets, benefit accuracy and institutional reputation.
A strong focus is placed on the areas where pension fund audits frequently identify weaknesses, including member data, contribution remittances, benefit payments, investment transactions, service-provider controls and regulatory compliance. Participants will learn how to interpret audit findings, evaluate root causes and follow through on corrective actions so that audit becomes a practical tool for improving control effectiveness and institutional assurance.
Target Participants
Internal auditors, external auditors, audit committee members, pension fund accountants, compliance officers, pension administrators, risk officers, trustees and regulators involved in pension assurance.
