About the Course
Pension governance determines how authority is exercised, how decisions are made and how those entrusted with retirement assets are held accountable. Because pension funds manage money on behalf of members over long periods, governance failures can have consequences that are difficult to reverse. Strong governance therefore depends on clear fiduciary responsibilities, competent trustees, effective committees, transparent decision-making and disciplined oversight of management and service providers.
This course provides a comprehensive framework for strengthening pension fund governance. It explores governance structures, trustee duties, board policies, conflicts of interest, delegated authority, committee effectiveness, service-provider oversight, reporting and governance evaluation. Participants also examine how governance should respond to investment complexity, regulatory change, technology risk and rising expectations for transparency and member protection.
Participants will also consider how effective governance moves beyond formal board structures to the quality of oversight, challenge, documentation and follow-through. The course therefore emphasizes clear delegations, committee effectiveness, management accountability, conflicts management and oversight of administrators, investment managers, custodians, actuaries and other service providers that influence scheme outcomes.
Target Participants
