About the Course
Pension trustees are responsible for decisions that affect the retirement security of thousands of members, yet many trustees serve in a non-executive capacity and rely heavily on management, advisers and technical specialists. Effective trustees must therefore know how to interrogate information, exercise independent judgement, manage conflicts and oversee investments, risk, administration and compliance without becoming involved in operational management.
This course develops the practical governance capabilities required of high-performing pension boards. It focuses on fiduciary leadership, meeting effectiveness, decision quality, financial literacy, investment oversight, risk oversight, performance evaluation and trustee accountability. The programme is particularly useful for new trustees, board members transitioning into pension oversight roles and established boards seeking to improve the quality of challenge, deliberation and collective decision-making.
The programme is designed to help trustees move from passive receipt of board papers to active, informed oversight. It strengthens the practical disciplines required for productive meetings, constructive challenge, sound judgement and collective accountability, enabling boards to focus their time on material issues affecting funding, investments, administration, risk, compliance and member outcomes.
